What's New!

Greetings from our little island far far away! We have so much to update everyone on so we're going to do it through photographs! Enjoy!

Check out Pete looking like a fine man in uniform! This is my man on the job on a normal workday. He had the privilege of being assigned to one of President Obama's ambulances while he was staying here.
Photo courtesy of Pete Keizer; it's the President himself, making the social rounds. Pete got to tag along behind his family for a day in the ambulance.

There he goes!
This is my new drive to work. I kid you not. It's AMAZING and I pray that I never get used to it! I never wanted to take this kind of beauty for granted. When it rains, there are waterfalls in almost every mountain crevice!
Classic example of a rainy day in the mountains. Incredible!!!
One of our favorite little hikes on Oahu- the Pillboxes in Lanikai. We love doing it at sunset!
Pete looking manly at the top of Koko Head Crater. Behind him is Hanauma Bay, one of the touristy snorkeling places on the island.
Fabulous view from the top!
Behind us is Sandy's Beach and some of South Shore. We climbed 1000 steps to get here and because somebody didn't drink enough water the day before, we had to take a break in the middle to keep "this somebody" from throwing up or passing out! Icky dehydration! I learned my lesson. Well, kind of...same thing happened one week later. Whoops. :)

I LOVE it when friends come to visit! Our dear friend Callie took 3 weeks out of her life to travel to Colorado, California, and then on to Hawaii! This is the true joy we all felt by being reunited - and in Hawaii! Ashley, Callie, and I all together again- the way it should be!
Thanks to Callie, I got my tan back! This is us climbing Stairway to Heaven (also known as Haiku Stairs)- a teeny bit illegal but psshh. We climbed almost 4,000 stairs and loved every moment of pain because we were TOGETHER! Sadly, Ash had to miss this day and we missed her very, very much!

This is the EPIC view from the near-top! It was my 2nd time hiking the stairs, and Pete's 6th or 7th. I swore I'd never do it again but I have a feeling we'll do it a few more times... :)
Callie and I wandered around the island for a few days...
I loved having her here so much!! She is actually going to move here this summer...well, at least I think she is...she doesn't know she is yet... but I prayed about it and God definitely said it's in His plan :)
Don't know if you've ever heard of this lil' ole surfing competition called The Eddie (in memory of Eddie Aikau, an amazing man and spectacular surfer in the 70's). It is a competition that can only happen if the waves are 20 feet tall- and that's by Hawaiian standards. That is actually more like 30-40 foot waves! We went to the competition at Waimea Bay on North Shore, which ended up getting canceled due to lack of consistency in waves, but it was a BLAST watching people surf these waves!
The turnout was pretty great too! People like Kelly Slater and Greg Long were there, and maybe even Jack Johnson!
Good luck to you cuz.

The gang at the competition :)

A bright little gecko friend graced our presence at Pizza Bob's in Haleiwa after the day of surf watching!Ash, Callie, and I were found wandering through tropical rainforests filled with bamboo...
An amazing Hawaiian landscape- this valley is the site most used for the show LOST.
I love my husband!
Alright, now in all seriousness- this is us hanging out at the Makapu'u tide pools on the Southeast Shore. It is one of my very favorite places on the whole island. However, this past week, just a few days after our adventures there, tragedy struck. A father and his 11 year old daughter were found on the lava rocks 24 hours after their deaths. After investigating, authorities believe a big wave came up on the rocks, sweeping the little girl into the ocean, causing the father to jump in after her. Hikers came across their bodies one day later. This will always be a solemn place for so many people, and now me. It is definitely not one to mess around with during high tide or violent ocean days. This is the same place that my friends Dave and Josh were injured a few months ago. I am sometimes struck at tragedies that happen in places that seem so simple and beautiful to me. It is a wake up call that screams, BE CAREFUL!
The tide pools are just beneath us.
Ashley and Adam in the gorgeous, natural pools.
Snorkeling day! Callie and Adam saw an octopus and Ashley saw a sea turtle! I didn't see anything cool because I gave myself a mini-concussion earlier this day (also at the tide pools...)
Callie's last full day in Hawaii- we ventured into the ocean and visited Flat Island and the Mokes! She is a PRO paddleboarder!
Flat Island has an AMAZING view of Oahu and Kailua Beach.
We maneuvered around loads of coral just to get to those 2 islands sticking out of the water! I was so proud of us once we got there!
Happy Birthday to my amazing friend Sarah! We had a great dinner out in Waikiki to celebrate a wonderful woman!
You think he's ready to be a daddy yet? I think he is but that doesn't mean it's going to happen any time soon! Pete and Baby Gavin chilling out at our going away party for Drew and Sarah. Could there be a happier baby?
We will miss you SO MUCH Sarah and Drew (and Olivia!). You have been amazing friends and we will always continue to love you and no doubt will see you in the future! Cali is NOT that far away!
Loving my friend time with these ladies, especially baby Ana!

Well I know you saw a few babies in those pictures but PLEASE don't get your hopes up :) Pete and I have plans and babies are in them but not for 2011! Hope you enjoyed our little update, and know that we would enjoy one from you anytime! Mahalo and much Aloha!
